about the show

I LOVE LUCY® LIVE ON STAGE is the brand-new hit stage show adapted from the most beloved program in television history! America’s favorite foursome – Lucy, Ricky, Fred and Ethel – is live on stage and in color for the very first time!

It’s 1952 and you are a member of the studio audience awaiting the filming of two hilarious and oh-so-familiar I LOVE LUCY® episodes. Imagine stepping back in time onto the Desilu Playhouse soundstage where a charming host entertains and enlightens you to the behind-the-scenes filming process, the 1950s hi-fidelity technology and this brand-new thing called “television.” The episodes begin and you witness, firsthand, the side-splitting antics of that crazy redhead in the Ricardo’s New York apartment and thrill to the Cuban sounds of “The Ricky Ricardo Orchestra” at the famed Tropicana Nightclub. In-between scenes? The Crystaltone Singers perform live advertising jingles of the show’s newest sponsors in perfect 50s style harmony. Can you say “Brylcreem?!”

L.A. Examiner’s Ron Irwin says I LOVE LUCY® LIVE ON STAGE is “an absolutely brilliant and utterly engaging tribute to that iconic television show!” TV Guide’s William Keck calls it, “the most entertaining stage production I’ve seen in years – including Broadway!”

The truth is in the title – whether young or old, everybody really does LOVE LUCY!

“I Love Lucy® Live on Stage” was The Los Angeles Times ‘Critics Choice’ for
12 weeks in a row!  (2011-2012)

In AAA Westways magazine (Nov/Dec 2011 issue), “I Love Lucy® Live on Stage” was chosen as the #1 Southern California events worth driving to!

history of the show

I LOVE LUCY® LIVE ON STAGE had its beginnings way back in 2000, when we produced an exhibition show that traveled around the country at state and county fairs, malls and casinos called the I LOVE LUCY® 50th Anniversary Experience. People walked through the world of Lucy, complete with photographs, memorabilia, video montages from the show and recreations of the sets.  When all was said and done, hundreds of thousands of people came out to see the exhibition and there was simply no way to deny it – folks really DO love Lucy!

From there, we set out to create not necessarily a storyline, but an experience for the audience. The idea is that when you walk into the theater, you are walking into 1952 – into the Desilu Playhouse – and are part of the studio audience getting to see two episodes of I LOVE LUCY® being filmed.

I LOVE LUCY® LIVE ON STAGE premiered in October of 2011 at the Greenway Court Theatre in Los Angeles. We were received with sold out shows, stellar reviews, and a two-month extension that still didn’t satisfy demand for tickets.

Following our overwhelming reception on the West Coast, it was time to introduce the show to the Midwest. We headed to Chicago where we first played a nine-week, sold-out run at Nederlander’s Broadway Playhouse from September – November 2012 that preceded a return stint from January – March 2013.

All of this prompted us to recognize that the country at large was ready for an I LOVE LUCY®LIVE ON STAGE National Tour and so we set about making that a reality.

The first year of the I LOVE LUCY® LIVE ON STAGE tour was an unparalleled hit with audiences across North America. We were fortunate enough to bring the beloved antics of Lucy, Ricky, Fred and Ethel to 14 major markets including Toronto, Boston, Philadelphia, Nashville and Ft. Worth. We are currently booked through the summer of 2015 and the show has been seen and loved by over 350,000 fans to date. I LOVE LUCY® LIVE ON STAGE is more than just the title of our show, it has proven to be a mindset. It’s a thought that is nearly spoken aloud by excited audience members as they enter the theatre and a feeling they take with them as they leave. Nearly 65 years after America chose their favorite redhead, this show has created a brand new way for people to “Love Lucy.”

We are committed to sharing this award-winning theatrical event with as many people as possible. I LOVE LUCY® is not only LIVE ON STAGE, but it is more popular than ever. We are grateful to everyone involved for their support in helping us craft this acclaimed production. Our intention, first and foremost, was to honor the legend that is “Lucy.” We are delighted so many have chosen to join us on this wonderful ride. We look forward to seeing you at the theatre!
